Fish Pass Report, first slime in 5 years in a yak.

Post by Rotorman »

My friend Brandon and I went to fish pass today to try our luck. Wind was howling and sky closed up as soon as we arrived.

We launched at the new boat launch, which is fantastic!

We fished our way down the south side of the channel to the new artificial rock pass they built. Throwing new penny shrimp with chart tail. Not a nibble.

Switched to my go to bait, 5" jerk shad and started the slow drift back to the lake. Almost immediately I have a few hits. Then a small trout. Then two more juveniles. And just as we get to the reef a flatty.

All and all it was a quick trip and I almost had a slam on my first outing but the slayer performed flawlessly.

Pattern was like fishing a corky, just let it sit and don't touch it.

Fish pass is gong to be the place to be soon and it's so much more kayaker friendly now.

Where is the new ramp? Is it on the south side of the pass where everyone parks and bank fishes?

Why did they build a ramp if they are going to close the pass?

Might check it out this weekend.

The new ramps are for access to Keith lake after they close the pass. It's really nice and you won't have to use juniors ramp anymore

There aren't any plans to close the pass... Keith lake Marsh is the largest producer of white (or was it brown?) shrimp in the state. The ramp was put in to provide access since the only other state owned ramp there is at sea rim.

Allen, DU is lobbying hard to close the south end and reopen into the bayou. They want the water to freshen up to allow more grass to grow. If I'm not mistaken and the guy I talked to in the tpwd truck out there said they placed the rocks in the canal to prepare for the closure. I hope they don't and that the little pass they built stays cause it is a kayaker so dream to fish there.
