I rarely use my yak as a shooting platform for bow fishing. I do use it during bow season (which is real freakin close ) to get to an area on corp land from a boat launch. Mainly to get to the spots too far of a walk for most hunters .
Re: Bowfishing?
so you use the yak for access to another hunting spot with your gear on board?
can you stand on a yak?

Yep. I still have to launch from a corp park to access corp land. Only way to get on corp land to hunt legally. Unless you use access points where you walk in. No, I don't stand to draw. I practiced a lot a while back sitting atop a 6ft. ladder, so the yak feels very stable compared. Plus I really don't want to fall in a cold , fall/winter day with gear on and on board. Gear being a backpack, small tripod chair, and a bow. Its getting close.

Re: Bowfishing?
That's exactly the reason why I bought my first kayak. The front hatch was big enough to fit my gun, so I could paddle across the lake to hunt a more remote section of the NF. That was almost 5 years and three boats ago, and I still haven't done it. Thinking about trying for hogs this year though. Need a lot more target time before I try it with a bow....on a mission wrote:I rarely use my yak as a shooting platform for bow fishing. Last year while fishing the Trinity River I rounded a bend to see three shoats napping in a shade right at the waters edge. Drifted right up to spittin distance... Finally one opened and eye and I said "hey, what y'all doin?" Mud and bushes flew everywhere!! Had a real good laugh watching then tear out of there!

I'm a little late to the party but I bowfish from my kayak. I love testing my skill with a bow and bowfishing is much more accessible than hunting. I'm obsessed with it now!japeatr wrote:how many people bowfish on this forum?

Do you bowfish from a yak or are you just considering it?
