WATERMELON,LING,SNAPPER,& LARGE SPADES!..in the HOT TX SUN!
LOTS OF WATERMELON, LING, SNAPPER, & LARGE SPADES!..in the HOT TX SUN...TANDEM-STYLE!!!!
...a GREAT day on the water!!!
Daniel(LW) & I took to the surf via a S.Freeport beach launch right at about 6:45AM this past SUNDAY, AUGUST 2nd 2015. It was a FLAT morning and day overall. The water was green only half a mile out and green-blue 2 miles and more. We did a total of 17-18 miles round trip from trolling structure and visiting rigs/& bottom structure.
Prior to launching we hit the Buc-ee's, loaded up on some last minute items,...and I got me a pretty sh-nazzy PELAGIC fishing cap for myself to match my shirt, and a needed utility knife that I was proud of... ..., but Ol Davy Jones claimed this very early into the trip... ... ...any ways.... This donation to him early in the trip may have been why he blessed us with our plentiful fish bounty...., who knows!?
Early on in the day we got into the SNAPPERS, one out of every 3 were keepers...15+ in size. We caught a good amount overall of SNAPS. This was my first experience catching these fish from a kayak. I forgot how razor sharp there gill plates can be...ouch!! ...hence...(I lost a nice keeper-that Daniel caught)....Davy Jones took that back also...
Daniel(LW) caught/released 4 barely legal COBIA, but there were schools of 3 to 4 that would hover around us from time to time with curiosity. There was always at least one HUGE keeper within these roaming bunches of COBIA. I caught one undersized COBIA myself. We caught COBIA on squid, ribbon fish, and cut bluefish...they weren't pickey. Both Daniel and I hooked into what we believe was either these big/larger COBIA or large GROUPER. The 3 to 4 BIG runs ALL got broke off into the structure bottom...BIG HEAVY SOLID RUNS!!!..
When we started running low on bait we targeted the SPADES. They were thick in schools and some very large ones that we managed to pull out...
IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!!
Thanks MANG!!!!

Oh and a LOST & FOUND reward is offered for a PELAGIC visor cap lost in the GULF OF MEXICO 08-02-15....
Looks exactly like the pic attached.... It truly had about 1 HOUR or less of me wearing it before DAVY-J got it...

Thanks guys, this was my first time actually eating SPADE.
I REALLY enjoyed them, and so did the family!!! I used the below recipe I pulled off the net,...Game for All Seasons Cookbook By Harold W. Webster.
