I have been working on some of my old tackle and will list some of the Spoons. I suspect that many of you will not remember some of them or the situation where they were used. I will give you a hint; At a time I was a big surf fisherman........
Flats Intruder, Equalizer Spoon, Dixie Jet, Dixie Dude, Dixie Bat (made here in Houston), Tony Acetta in 5,5H, 7, 7H in Gold and Chrome. Tony Acetta also made a weedless spoon. And they made a model called the Hobo and a model called the Pet. Many were used with a white, orange or red bucktail. Johnson spoons in all sizes from 1/8oz to 1oz and in gold, silver, black, and copper. Acme Cast Master in different sizes and they made a model with a hole in the center from 1/8 oz to 1oz..........
There was a spoon called the Triple Chance which was fantastic on small trout at Port O'Conner. Reedy's Spoon, Freak, Barracuda and not a spoon but a plug made/sold by Rudy Griger..........
The heavy spoons like the Cast Master, Tony Acettas, Dixies were used in the Surf and were easily cast into the wind. The not so heavy spoons we in Chrome were used for trout and the gold weedless were for reds. All in all I think spoons are the most effective lure we have. I was looking at some PluginShorties the other day was wondering why we no longer use this lure. It was very effective in its day.........................
Old Spoons or Do you remember
Re: Old Spoons or Do you remember
Glad to see the Freak made your list. It was my father's favorite lure. He'd say; "when all else fails throw a #1 freak with a yellow bucktail."

I cannot give you pics because I am old and computer illiterate. I live in the Woodlands and if there is a volunteer nearby I will work with him...............
Re: Old Spoons or Do you remember
My fave was the Johnson Sprite spoon that had a yellow back and about 10 red spots on it. They still make one with red diamonds, but not that special one I loved. It has a treble hook but that was no problem because back then there was little to no grass in west bay. I would catch trout, flounder and reds on that lure on a single trip, pumping it along the bottom.

Paul, I'm right there with you. Check with aggie182, he lives in The Woodlands and knows how to post photographs. Joe or Jerry could probably do it too.picaroon wrote:I cannot give you pics because I am old and computer illiterate. I still use a spoon to locate fish because it will work all of the water. I like the sidewinder also and caught a nice stringer of Trout, and my buddy lost his and tied on a Johnson and never got a strike.
