Caddo Lake

Post by jpo_tx113 »

I'll be heading to Caddo Lake tomorrow and will be camping out Friday and Saturday, either at a WMA site or an island. Haven't been to this lake yet, and I'm excited. I've heard it's pretty nice there.

If you see six yaks in a group holler at us.

Will post some pics next week.

I've been there a couple of times and have learned that if you see rebar sticking out of the water in the river channel it means a good area to fish. I loaded the yak with crappie at one of those areas a while back.

Well, I learned something:paddling through salvinia sucks! Will post photos later.

Did you check out any of the new paddle trails? Caddo lake is my childhood stomping grounds, looking forward to the pictures!

Headed back to camp at the end of the first day. You can see the sunlight filtering down through the trees...very peaceful looking out there.

Had one, but lost it. Fish weren't biting too good, but any day out on the water is a good day, regardless.

Great pictures! Looks like you camped at the Carter Lake ramp in the WMA. It is better to put your kayaks in on one of the ramps on Big Cypress Bayou. The plants haven't overtaken the main channel there and it is much easier paddling. I have not tried the new paddling trails yet, but am afraid they too will be covered.

I was with the OP on this trip... The one new paddling trail that we wanted to do, Carter's Chute, was completely covered in salvinia from the parts that we saw so we avoided it. We did paddle out into Big Cypress Bayou and went down it for a ways. The ski-boat traffic was terrible though.
