CB - 12/31/2012
Launched at the 2004 bridge early this morning around 6:30AM. The weather report called for 20% chance of rain until noon, where it jumped to 50% and soon to 80% by 8PM. No rain in the morning, just cloud cover till about 10:30AM. Weather report called for 17mph winds, but at Chocolate Bayou it was more mild then that, probably only 10-12mph if I was guessing.
Ran south at first and tried a couple of the little drains and a reef with nothing to show. Turned around and went north of the bridge and started getting into redfish around 9AM. I ended up hooking a 22inch red with an enormous tail. It was kind of short and fat with a few extra spots. After we hooked into undersized reds, but close to being keepers (18-19 inches). Near the north shorelines I saw couple reds hitting bait pretty good, but had a hard time getting their attention. The reds that were caught seemed to be near the deeper parts of the channel.
Water color was somewhat off with minor chop due to the wind. Air temperature was in the 60's.
Baits used:
Redfish Magic - Electric Chicken 1/8 oz (ineffective, no fish, no bites)
Johnson Weedless Gold Spoon - 1/4 oz (ineffective, no hits)
Gulp Minnow Grub - Pearl White w/1/8 oz shad jig (effective, all reds caught on this lure)
Paddled back in at 11:30AM and rain started at 12:00PM.
All fish caught and released.

Thanks for your info on which lure worked & which ones didn't.
Those Gulps stink but they also work!

Great report. Appreciate the detail and even the general location that you were fishing.
I fished that way with my PB last Spring. No catches but I learned something about the waterways up there. Every now and then a power boat would come flying by. Rich

Nice report! Very informative and helpful.
Re: CB - 12/31/2012
That's a good report. I've been wanting to get on the water but the weatherman seems to keep telling me to stay home lol
Re: CB - 12/31/2012
Yep, there's a man who knows how to do a fishing report. So much better than the "look at the fish I caught" reports. Good job enginerd.

The best way is to cut cold like a drug addict. I have not used dead/live bait since September and counting... Sounds like an AA phrase lol.robert arsuaga wrote:Good report thanks for the info on how successful the baits were I'm still trying to convert from live this helps .

The key is not getting discouraged. I go with others and learn the tricks like best areas to try and how to work the lures for the conditions that day.
Re: CB - 12/31/2012

those are call bragging reports actually... cause it aint fair for them to disclose any info on the location since you have to find your own honey holesFargo wrote:Yep, there's a man who knows how to do a fishing report. Usually fish in the water when I get a chance but here lately the only fishing has been done in my dreams and I'm still getting skunked.

Re: CB - 12/31/2012
I had to abandon the idea of kayak fishing with these 40-50 degree days and 20+mph winds. I don't mind the 40-50 degrees, but the wind just makes it brutal! I went to Texas City Dike and fished there like an hour going back/forward to the SUV to heat my hands every now and then.Old Skool Hookers wrote:Usually fish in the water when I get a chance but here lately the only fishing has been done in my dreams and I'm still getting skunked.
On my way home stop at Clear Lake Shores where there is a park that you can fish from a small pier. Spend like another hour. In the first 10 minutes using a gulp minnow caught a decent flounder. After that nothing else. At least was the first fish of 2013!
Now I went to groupon.com and purchased a 4hr fishing class ($89) with Marshall at:

Later in the year I want to do another with http://www.rickskayakadventures.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Plan to hit the marsh hard this year and more night fishing as well!
