Going to Calgary... ehh?
Going to Calgary... ehh?
I'm headed to Calgary, Alberta next week and staying with my in-laws who have little lakes all over their neighborhood. Seeing as how I'm from Texas, like saltwater, and don't get out much, I could use some help. Does anyone know what they catch up there and how they catch them? I would default to a bone super spook, but they'd probably deport me so any help is appreciated.

Don't know about those lakes specifically, but google the Bow river. There are probably pike and bass in those lakes.

I fished North of Alberta about 10 years ago and it was an awesome experience. We caught walleye, HUGE pike and lake trout. If y'all start hooking into a lot of pike, throw on a topwater mouse and cinch the barb or just remove the hook entirely. It is so much fun to see all those huge fish trying to eat the lure and getting frustrated when they can't. They are ferocious.

I'll bet that is a cool place to fish. I'm jealous.
Not saying the SS wouldn't catch, but you would probably want to focus more on trout stuff (the salmonid trout, not the seatrout)
Ultralight tackle like you use for white bass would probably work great. Spinners, small spoons, and don't forget that every predatory fish will hit a properly-sized curltail grub on a jighead.

Get a guide and float the Bow. Large Browns and Rainbows. Water might be high from runoff though.
