My epoxy and glass came in today ,so I can go back to work on the Wind.

Don't know about your area, but there is absolutely no way I could attempt glassing in Houston right now. There is a green film of pine pollen thick on everything. It even gets in the house. Nasty, nasty stuff.bowgarguide wrote:

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
I think this will be my nicest looking boat. If you havent noticed this is a strip stitch and glue. But it has no filets , I figured with a twelve panel hull it would look like a bengal tiger with all those filets.
What I did was to take a block plane and flush fit the joints and then glue them just like a striper . it seems to have turned out pretty well.

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
Did you use goopie or the titebond in the jionts ? and looks like you applied from the outside, how lond did it take to plane those varyable bevels ? and where are more recent pics ?

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
I used a combination , titebond in places and just plain epoxy in some
parts ,depended on how tight the joint was.
The panels fit pretty good so it was just shave a little in places and depending on the panels I planed a bevel on some to close them up
Pics will be coming before long.

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
Between laying out my shop and trying to get some done on this boat I havent posted to many pics.
Well here is a few.
Bulkheads built glassed and fileted in
started gluing the shear strips. That sure does start shaping the boat up.
Here is a close up of the seams , they still need a little sanding
same area wet down with water
and backed up to show some of the color of this boat.
After a saturation coat I will go back and match the color of the different areas filling in the stitch holes.
Thats it for now.

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
been wandering about the absence of your updates, getting a shop set up is apretty good excuse.
Boat sure is looking good, color matching is a pain in the posterior
are you bringing it to the round up

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
I had a pretty good day on the Northwind today.
Got my decks layed out ,glued up and planed . Have them tacked down and rough cut.
These are the dropped nose balanced de3cks I like.
she is really starting to shape up
she came out with about the look I wanted
Thats all for now.

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
Ron my daughter wants me to build a tandem for her.
I was thinking of a TV 15-32. I would like to modify the deck by attaching a sheer clamp where the tumblehome panel begins. Then radius the tumblehome panel into a deck at each end and narrow down the sides...making it possible to do away with the thwarts. The tandem in my avatar was only 14'

I think the T-V 15 32 would make a good tandem, My 15 28 has carried loads in excess of 5 hundred lbs with no problem.
I cant picture in my head what you are talking about on the decks but a man should be able to design that any way he wants. The reason for the 20 ft boat ( Mako) ,I wanted a boat long enough so Darrel and I wouldnt be smacking each other with the paddles and also to carry a big load and move it pretty fast when needed.

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
Ron what I was meaning was add a sheer clamp to the first side panel (forget the last tumblehome panel) incorporate a deck similar to my first tandem.

Re: Strip Stich @ glue Northwind
I got to wet the whole hull down today and I sure like her looks and lines.
Like Darrel says wetting her down all the way gives you and i deal of how she will look.
Be a few days before I can get back on her.
Ron
Hull is still light

Thanks Guys
I am pleased with how she has turned out so far, looking at the bottom shape she should track like she is on rails.
