61st Street Pier Galveston
61st Street Pier Galveston
Hello all I am new to the Galveston/Houston area and I would like to know that if I fish from a pier do I need a fishing license. I know that there is a fee to go on the pier but not sure if I need a license.
Re: 61st Street Pier Galveston
All of the piers on the upper Texas coast were destroyed by Ike. They have not been rebuilt as far as I know. Yes a fishing license is required to fish from a pier. The fishing can be good at times from the rock groins that project into the surf along Galveston beach.
Re: 61st Street Pier Galveston
You can fish in the Galveston Island State Park without a license. But you must stay within the bounds of the park area.

You need a fishing license with a saltwater designation. I wasn't aware that you could fish at GISP w/out a license.

It is a state park. I think it is covered in the no licence clause in the TPW handbook.Yaklash wrote:You need a fishing license with a saltwater designation. I wasn't aware that you could fish at GISP w/out a license.

Well Im not a hundred percent sure but I heard that if you are fishing at a state park you dont need a license. But dont quote me on that I might of heard wrong. But I think its best to just get the fishing license that way you got that security factor and the money helps the parks and other services. I always get the year saltwater license cant go wrong there

FYI: They are in the process of rebuilding the 61st pier.....should re-open soon, if it hasn't already.Yak Dawg wrote:All of the piers on the upper Texas coast were destroyed by Ike. I have fished there numerous time. You do not need a license if you are in a state park. GISP has bay fishing as well as surf fishing spots. We have fished both and caught fish. Just pay the park fee and you are set. I may try to make it down to the island this weekend myself. Want to try around BA 16.

There are certain state parks that you can fish in without a license, however you do have to stay in the boundary of that park. GISP is on of them.
Im not sure where i read it, but i seem to remember seeing somewhere that 61st st pier is open again.
Re: 61st Street Pier Galveston
I'm looking forward to it's opening. I hope its soon.
I was at Stubblefield Park on the North end of Lake Conroe a few months ago and I was down at the bridge and the game warren came up and I asked him if he needed to see my licenses. He replied that the bridge was part of the state park and we didn't need to see our license. He then yelled at some guys in yaks, they came over to the bank and he checked thier licenses and wrote one of them a ticket for no fishing license.

At Stubblefield there is a sign on the end of the bridge that says you do not need a license on the bridge. If you get on the water you better have one.

The 61st Street Pier is coming along nicely and should be open pretty soon from what I saw last weekend.
