Yakke-T and I went down to the beach a couple of weeks ago when there was quite a bit of it on shore, and she showed me something - we would grab a big chunk of it and take to the waters edge and shake it out - lots of interesting things live in that stuff, including sargassum crabs, sargassum shrimp and the most interesting for me, sargassum fish - which look a lot like a lion fish. We found a container and were able to bring some of it back to her facility, some of the shrimp and crabs are still doing pretty well.

The fish are fascinating looking -

Another thing about the Sargassum fish is that they are basically tame. My wife and I came across some on Dauphin Island a few years ago that were fairly large - about the size of my hand. We were in the water with them and could pet and handle them without them swimming away at all.

I have seen both redfish and sheepies plucking a meal from the floating mats before

Seahorses that live in that stuff too, they're tiny and hard to spot.
