A friend from Arkansas came down and he wanted to catch something from the salt.
On Friday we hit Matagorda Beach and set up a spot right next to the currently closed Pier. Using dead shrimp, we caught 16 keeper whiting and one Pompano and several tourist trout.
It was a blast. Now, it wasn't as technical as fishing a corkie, but it fun.

Glad to see the pompano have returned. Your's is the first post I've seen where someone has caught one. As the water temperature heats up, more pompano should show also.

Yea, I wasn't expecting it at all. We cleaned and ate the pomp that night, and I have to say it was the best fish I've had. This sounds strange, but it didn't seem to taste like fish. Firm, but not fishy at all. I just pan seared it in a little olive oil with black pepper cause we just wanted to taste it.
How long will the pomps stay?

The Galveston fishing report had this report of one on the 18th:
"Teresa Banuelos fished the surf early Thursday and caught one of our typical summer fish, a pompano. Banuelos found good action along the 17th Street rock groins, where she caught a bunch of whiting and a 22-inch red in addition to the pompano. Her last comment was the water was green all the way to shore."
