Texas City Dike

Post by Brizzonator »

If the TCD isn't going to open till Fall or whenever, what is the closest launch point to get to the Dike's north side, like around Mosquito Island. I'm assuming they aren't going to wade out into the drink if you are fishing close to it to give you a ticket? :D

I don't see how they could give you a ticket for fishing there in the yak. It is public water, right???
I think you can park on skyline drive and launch from there. It is a drag down the hill though, and a big drag up!
Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah thats a big 10-4. Big hill, free water. There is a house or something with a boat ramp probably a mile from the dike.

take the yak cart if you're going to launch off skyline drive or $5 cash if you're going to use the boat ramp. there is no one there but they have a sign that it costs $5 to park there.

I would lauch at the boat launch. I used to launch there when the store and pier was there and open. I lauched there near the end of the drive by the gates. Down hill wasn't to bad but it was bad coming back up the hill. The mosquitoes were thick and were big as small planes and you could swipe your arm and blood was everywhere.

If you drag the yak down to shore from Skyline keep in mind that you will have all the granite rocks that you will have to drag the yak up and over. Drive down Skyline to the sailboard area as I believe there may be a beach of some sorts down there. The ramp will be at the house on your right once you pass the stop sign. After the stop sign it is a 2 way road. If you go all the way down to the flood gate at Moses Lake, there is a path on the left which you could probably cart the yak to the bank and paddle through the gate into Dollar Bay. Either way, you can drift to Mosquito Island if the wind is right and you may even not need to go that far if you know what I mean :D.

All this is from memory as I have not been down there in a while.

Happy Fishin'

Thanks all for the replies, I'll have to give it a shot when the fish move up a little.
I hardly got out at all last year, but that spot was good to me the year before.

I'm with the guy that said he'd ignore him and paddle for the horizon. I grew up in California bodyboarding and that's what we would do to the lifeguards that tried to pull us out because we were too close to the pier. Two of them roared out in a motorized dory one time to try to force us in, stalled the engine in the breakwater and my friend and I got a great view from the wave that we were riding in as it swamped both of them.
Highlight of my 16th year right there! :D
