Paddle recmendations

Post by bowgarguide »

I know this has been discussed but I need some more help with it. I have 200 to 250 to spend
and I need another paddle, the one I use now is a touring style and if I put the power to it it just breaks loose.
Thanks for the help

If I put a lot of presure or power in the stroke the blade will just cavitate.

Remember the old joke where the patient tells the doctor that it hurts if he does this? The doctor says don't do that.

Well...if you are overpowering your paddle...don't do that! Build up to speed slower. Cavitation in your stroke is just like spinning your tires. Don't apply so much power that you spin your tires.

The blade of your paddle should be stiff. If it is too limber you may need another paddle, but don't go to a big one. Your shoulder muscles will cry...and you can easily hurt yourself. I know--I have.

I agree with Gerald. I find that using slower motions actually increases the power generated by a paddle blade, not horsing it. It's a very counter-intuitive thing, I guess.

Ron,

I'll trade a ride in one of those wooden boats for testing out some different paddles! :) :) I have to warn you though...one of my paddles has pink stripes and leopard print.

It just didn't matter what I wrote, it just didn't sound right. So I erased it (several times)

I think I will personally drive down the the Brazos with my DSLR to get a picture of Ron paddling with pink stripes/leopard print! At Costco I can get a nice big 12" x 18" print of that for $3

I am definitely not having a problem with cavitation, my wimpy spaghetti-and-flab-arms couldn't pull a paddle hard enough to do that! :)

My wife was plotting to steal it until Colleen showed her the purplish, blue pasley paddle. Thats the one that went home. :D

I believe there is! I also think Darrell is going to win it. My tutu pales in comparison...

It was a Bending Branches Breeze paddle with the "Day" blade shape. I have a few other blade shapes and sizes that you can try out as well. Maybe a little Saturday AM paddle on the Leon River below the dam?
