My new Kayak Trailer ** More Pics

OK.... Not mine. This is one of two trailers KASA has bought for the Heroes on the Water Program. We used COOP Grant money awarded by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Picked it up this weekend from Magnum Trailers and Slimey Limey epoxied the floor for us so it won't rot when we put stuff away wet. YaknAustin is helping us move the trailers around. Great to be able to ask fellow yakkers to help out and they jump at the chance.

The sides are bonded instead of riveted so we can have the trailer wrapped smooth. We will eventually get it wrapped with our logos and sponsors trademarks.

We will probably put 14( two layers of 6 plus two on top) inside plus all the fishing gear, paddles and PFD's. Not long enough to put two rows of yaks in. I'm guessing we could probably put a bunch more in if we stuffed them in like Steve from Wildy does in his.

We went round and round about that. We need a place to store them. And we hope to eventually get it wrapped by sponsors. It will allow us to have a "turn key, everything in one place "operation. One of our biggest challenges is making sure we have all of the right equipment we need from everyone bringing the bits and pieces. Now we just pull up and we are ready.

I drove it home yesterday with a 35-40 knot headwind and my gas milage went from 17 MPG no wind/no trailer to 8 MPg with them. Pretty tough haul!!

Talk to me after you haul it down some of those oil field roads loaded and get out and all your stuff is clean not dusty and full of rocks...

That's every day in west Texas! Except in WTx, it's always a headwind, going and coming, every time!

Vincent is right about getting to the other end of the oil field road and eveything's clean and hasn't be shelled by the "rock mortars"!

Sweet trailers...I lived in smaller apartments when I wan in college!

I have NO idea when I'd be doing that!?!!?

After going to Mexico a few times on Bass trips and being hauled by pickup down the dusty roads, I learned real quick that we needed to cover the rods with socks. If not it would sound like a coffee grinder when you tried to use them .

Inside of trailer being prepped to paint. Plywood looks pretty nice so going to use some spar varnish on it. You can see the epoxy floor that Slimey Limey's guys put down. Wasn't going for pretty, but it should look pretty good once the varnish gets on. Put the first coat on today and will get the second on tomorrow.

Trailer with 2x4's and PFD's The 2x4's will hold a layer of kayaks sitting up on edge. I will also have a row below them. The 2x4s up front will hold PFD's and also support the trash cans I have the paddles in. And the red, white, and blue stake out poles Preacher made us. Kinda' like a yak, we will try out different things before we configure it permanently. Like Colleen at HOT Kayaks said last weekend - It's easier to contain paddles, rods and reels and other stuff when laid horizontal instead of vertical. We will figure out a way to load the paddles in a bin of some sort laying down.

I believe they are working with the VA Hospital in Houston. Just waiting for the good to go!

Bill - That's where Dean and Jennifer are sleeping this weekend at Will's!!

Partially loaded. I can get 12 yaks on their edge and maybe two or three on top. Right now I'm just using rope and a 2x4 to keep 'em from coming forward. May put a strong cargo net or something like that later. Willl be fun to see how it ends up. Right now I'm doing a lot of AF engineering.

This is excellent DD! As in what you are doing and the trailer too!

My Stepdad was a POW in Korea " and he was totured", my Uncle Cecil Craig was in Korea and received a Purple Heart "he ended up losing his left arm just above the elbow" and my step brother died in Vietnam. I know many others that have also served and who have in one way or another suffered! God Bless them one and all!

DD, God Bless and Thank you and the others out there for showing our appreciation to those that truelly deserve it!

When my StepDad passed away, some veteran volunteers came to his funeral and played taps with a seven gun salute. It would have meant a lot to him and it did to us!
