Ol Al's Casting Clinic

Post by Barry's Dad »

Howdy Casters

The next clinic is set for Saturday November 1, for general casting. Sunday is training for CCI Candidates.

ol Al's Fly Casting Clinic Nov 1&2 2008

The Clinic is held at Hawk Ridge Flyfishing School near Glen Rose. 50 miles southwest of Ft. Worth
Here is the 'plan of the day' for clinic. We will make some small changes as needed.
This time I hope to have some special casting with the Spey Rods.
The problem is it would be nice to have some water. Pray for rain before the Clinic.

We do have rods to use if you do not have a outfit. A 5 or 6 wt is a good weight for the Casting Classes. This is for all levels of casters. Beginners to advanced. Youth Too.
This is all done on grass (pasture mowed)

The charge for this clinic is $100.00 for students over 16, Free if under.
Certified Casting Instructors (CCI) has to give a one-hour classroom talk on some part of casting. Outline required before the clinic, so I can set up a schedule. They should be on-hand to help with the casting class. No charge for them if they do.
The idea is to help the CCIs to become better instructors by learning from other instructors. The 'CCI Candidates' will have Sunday for Teaching tips. We will cover much that is on the CCI test. The charge for this is $50.00

There will be other instructors than what is listed above and the 'Tying' will not be part of the Clinic this time. . Spey casting with Gary Davison demo.

Casting from a kayak, Might happen as a back up. These special parts of the clinic is so that the students that are returning to the clinic get something new.

There is Free Camping on the ranch if you are on a "Casting Junkie budget" Glen Rose has several motels if not. I supply the lunches and drinks. No charge.

Hats and Eye protection required on the Casting venue.

Al, how's the P fishing? I'm going to be down in Glen Rose next weekend for some other stuff and was curious. Also, with the new bridge how's access to the Brazos and any idea how it's fishing? Need to know if I should bring the yak.

Thanks,
Roger

no water in the Paluxy

Post by Barry's Dad »

Howdy Roger,
Without rain this year there is no flow in the Paluxy River
The Brazos is fishing much better. Bigger fish this year too.
The US 67 bridge (new) is a good place to put in. Turn south on to county rd 316 turn left under bridge. Here you can drop down about 10 ft to the river. Up stream is good kayaking. If not running hard you can wade below the bridge. Kayaking is great long this section of the Brazos River
