Lauched in the north spoil area to look for reds. Water was gin clear and no visible fish after paddling for an hour and half. Fished the north 'ditch' along the road for flounder, not a bite. Fun watching the pelicans dive all arond me. They were not doing too good either.
Saw a guy fishing from the road in various places with a kayak on his truck. When I heading out I saw him walking up from the rocks with a speck. Stopped to talk and he said he had just caught nine specks one after the other. Well the painting and drape hanging could wait. He left with a limit, I left with nine (could of caught a limit but I HAD to go). A couple were over 19". One guy there had caught a limit the day before in less than 30 minutes. I was unaware of this type of action in December. Only one throw back.
Went back Sunday afternoon/evening with my cousin and we left with 9 combined and threw back as many or more just shy of 15". We were just driving up and down the levee and stopping every 200 yards or so. Water was fairly clear. I'll be back.
Sabine Lake 12/16 & 17
I've caught some nice flounder in Jan along the pier pilings on that shoreline. It's real deep in some spots along those rocks..I stepped off between two bolders one time and went WAAAAAY over my head...after swimming back onto the rock I poked my 7' rod down and never came near the bottom..and that was between the rocks..
Fishing Lake Sabine
Good Report. I guessed wrong end of lake. I was in south end on Sat.
Did not do as well as you did.
