Brazos River Fishing/Camping Trip Report

Post by Strider »

I thought I'd post a blurb here for folks that never make it to the FW board. The whole story is at http://texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/vi ... hp?t=58092

Here's what I brought home after cooking several up for a riverbank fish fry. The biggest blue went 11 lbs 4 oz and the smallest blue went 8 lbs 10 oz. Most fish were caught on freshly seined river minnows.

Many thanks to Jolly Roger who, months ago suggested to me that I try further down the river. It still continues to pay off :D.

Strider, let me know next time you plan one of these trips, I would really like to get out and do some camping and heck catching a few of those fat cats would be pretty nice. Let me know so I can try to get off work.

Fishmaster1,

11 lbs 4 oz blue cat. 2 trips later got a 31 lb 8 oz yellow. They just keep getting bigger, the farther I go.

What kind of bait do you use? When I was a kid my dad had some stuff he called stink bait that we used for catfish. Is this the same thing or similar that you use??

Trailshoe,

I use only natural baits. Minnows, perch, rough fish, nymphs and the like. On a rare occasion I will use commercial nightcrawlers but mostly I catch my own bait from the waters I am fishing.
