Mother's Day weekend down at Rockport my sister and I had a window Saturday morning even with the high winds. We made the run down to Ingleside on the Bay to fish the little flat which is moderately protected from the forecast winds of northeast.
Winds were calm as we made our way to flats but realized we were beat by a group of waders. Luckily they were wading tightly which allowed us to drift the flats. There were sounds of bait getting popped on the surface and mullet jumping. I made my first drift with a Spook Jr. and tied on a She Pup for the second a got bit.
It's been awhile since I caught a mullet on topwater. That was the only fish on topwater. My sister didn't have any luck with her Hunchback. We began working towards the island and deeper waters with mostly a sand bottom. We both had switch to soft plastics and began getting bumps. I landed a 14.5" speck and then my sister lands a keeper.
We got a few more bites, but being farther out in the open with the wind wasn't much fun and we weren't that angry at the fish to keep fighting it. We moved back closer to the shoreline and drifted over the flats after the waders had called it a day. I made a drift, but we called it shortly there after to spend time with the family at the cabin.

Josh, thanks for the report. You picked the right water for that wind and staying close to shore.
I've always had good luck in the deeper, heavier grass around the bend at McGloin bluff and the creek mouth, but the NE wind from there could take you far out into Corpus Bay.
But it would be good wade fishing on the NE wind.

About Jerry's bait snag,
something I learned a long time ago throwing cats whiskers on a fly rod in clear hill country creeks, is that a cloud of bait will school on your lure, basically using it for cover - they figure something like you know what you're doing.
When the quarry fish flares to munch into the bait cloud, the real bait scatters, leaving your lure behind to get snagged.
You hear about Jeff Schmidt's striper on a San Juan worm - the striper wasn't trying to eat the San Juan worm, but the bait cloud it attracted.
