Marsh slam 8/24/19

Post by poleposition »

Been lagging with the posts this year, but I miss my fellow tkfers so here we go. Storms just south of me, I decide to chance it and launch. I have my trusty early morning go to lure on and, as I'm testing my drag and drifting away from the launch, I snag a 16" flounder in the dark. Decent start. I paddle to a drain and anchor down. Tide is slowww outgoing so I'm just outside the drain. Casting at corners and grasslines, I bring in a 20" speck. The dinks were hitting on top but the biguns were taking slow retrieve bouncing off the bottom. I move into the drain and snag another 20" speck. Okay. Move to a flat and bring in 19 & 20" flounder. Nice! Text a pic of the stringer to a jealous friend and all I get back is, "where's the red". Damnit. Tell him I'm working on it and set off with a new mission. Get that red. I find finger mullet stacked at the back of the flat, in heavy grass. Dealing with the grass wasn't easy, but pretty quickly, I'm being dragged all over creation by a 26.5" red. I'm still a kid when it comes to the joy of kayak fishing and always will be. I net, string, and text. Lol. Slam b*$&#.
I drift around and catch a couple 19" rats before moving into the marsh. Again, heavy grass. But bait everywhere. I throw in a corner and hook into a 20.5" red. Yummy. Go a little further in and post up in a little open area surrounded by grass. Not long before I get a 23" red to compete my limit and a gorgeous stringer. I used one kind of lure. They kept getting torn up so I went through 4 of them, but same lure all day for all fish. Using a 1/8 oz chartreuse knotty hooker jig. Zoom in on the pic and figure out the lure yourself

Excellent day of fishing (and catching) right there. You’re making a lot of yak fisherman envious right now. Or at least this one.

mwatson71.... it looks like you are becoming quite the expert. Excellent work!! You should do the PACK tournament in a week and a half from now. Charlie has details if interested.

Good luck on your next fishing adventures!!

Nice job, PP. I especially like the this line: "I net, string, and text. Lol. Slam b*$&#."

I knew that Pole Position had great fishing skills which he demonstrated in our NIGHTTIME TOURNAMENT last year.
He won a trophy.
Good fishing report, PP!

Well, Dandydon and I have decided to retire from the tournament director position, but are happy to fish with you anytime you'd like. We might be planning an outing this weekend - Friday night through Sunday look good.
