Was down to Rockport this weekend for a my sister-in-laws graduation from TAMU-CC Nursing program (the second Islander in the family the other being yours truly) and Mother's Day. Her father has had kayaking on his bucket list, so despite the rain and forecast we managed to squeeze in some paddle time Saturday morning before storms and graduation.
We paddled past the last pier a little and began drifting with the wind. We set up for drifts without much luck. I finally caught a 12" speck on topwater along the shore in brackish water.
Then I took a look at radar.
Not too bad,so we kept fishing. When I finished my drift I took another glance at the radar about 30 minutes later.
With a first timer and a relative novice I decided to call it and head back in, just in case, even though we weren't too far from our launch. Not a banner day, but given the forecast was glad were able to paddle some. Probably could have stayed on for another hour before rains actually moved inland.
