Kayak fishing the Lone Star State...

We launched right at 1:30a just as the wind died down. This time we launched on the south side of the causeway with DandyDon joining the party along with about a dozen other kayakers who had the same idea as us. For the first thirty minutes or so, it was a grind. Only a couple of bites that resulted in two dink trout and one keeper right at 16". There was little to no current and I saw very little bait movement.

At about 2:30, things started to change. The tide started moving, bait started popping in the lights, and the bigger trout showed up for meal time. It was not as active as last week, but I still managed to string 8 keeper specks between 16-20". I think Shoffer ended up with six specks in the bag, but two or three of his were 20+". Dandydon ended up with two slot reds he picked up in the lights over in Offats. Around 4:45a things started slowing down so we called it and headed back in.

All of my fish were caught on a tandem rig that I made from Tsunami Pro 2" swim shad.

You put on another Causeway trout show, Mike, & that heavy stringer was your proof! Looks like I need to rig up some 2" tandem rigs to catch legal specks under those Causeway lights.
I grew tired of landing dinks, so headed up into Offatts Bay in search of underwater lights. Only found two, but each one yielded me a feisty slot redfish on the first cast. Used a white Usual Suspects 3" shad tipped w/ shrimp Fishbites.
By the time I got back to the Causeway, the speck action had faded, so we headed in to find about 50 sunrise fishermen launching their boats for some Easter weekend fun! They seemed impressed that kayakers Watson & Shoffer caught many specks & I managed to get those redfish.
Looking forward to more nighttime trips as the water temps increase & more bait shows up.

A heads up for Tsunami 2" swim shad lovers. I heard from a vendor these have been discontinued, and I've been buying up a few odd 6-packs where I can find them. Blue back is already gone. I picked 4 6-packs of Glow from Dick's sporting goods.
They'll continue providing SS3 and larger, but those lures are too weighty for a double spec rig, for anything except offshore trolling.

Thanks for the heads up. I actually bought several packs at Dick's a couple of months ago. I even think they were in the "Buy 5 get 5 Free" bin if I'm not mistaken. I love the fish catching ability of these lures. The thing about them I don't like is they are pretty soft and tear easily. I usually only get a couple of fish out of each of them. But I have a decent supply. Hopefully enough to get me through the summer.

Blue back is my favorite color for night, and of course they make glow.

Throwing the single SS3 in blue-back pounded trout and snook at Arroyo last fall, both in the lights and against the dark docks.
