Christmas Bay/ Churchill 11/06/17

Post by Bradw693 »

First off, I got to fish 2 weeks in a row, I’m on a roll. Started off with 1 hippo and 1 rhino from buccees because that’s just what I do.

Hit the water at 0615 sunrise was at 0638. Perfect conditions with a falling tide and only 3mph S wind. My main objective was to locate flounder and slay 2 fatties. Had my tandem rig with gulp ready to go and down south lures strawberry and just knew I would pull them out of the drains in Churchill with ease.....WRONG. Bait was everywhere but couldn’t get a bite. Eventually I landed a rat red on the dsl and then around 11 caught a baby potato chip of a flounder.

Slowly started making my way back west in Churchill and a smooth coasting hobie kayak fisherman came coasting by.. “how ya do”? Well caught a rat and potato...you? “I got a Texas slam”..

My initial thoughts: a$&hole haha

But in all seriousness, Ruben was pretty cool and has a YouTube channel “Texas allwater fishing”...check him out.

I continued to grind and landed a 18.5” flattie which is my new PB from kayak for flounder.

Then shortly after landed a 19” red who was released to find my soft plastic in the future. So turned out to be a pretty decent day. Beautiful weather and grateful to be on the water 2 weeks in a row.

Pictures would be great but not needed. Good report! Glad you caught what you were targeting! Flounder are there in he drains. Fan cast the drains and make sure to let the bait move with the current as they are laying in ambush at those points where the water is flowing WITH the bait.

Nice flounder, after the grind. I wouldn't feel bad, live bait will catch you a slam all day long. I just saw his tx all water fishing vid. I was out this week and hooked trash fish on live shrimp. Was forced to finish the day on artificials, finally hooked a slot red and keeper blk drum. I'm moving more n more to art lures, awesome feeling that bite.
