I went out this past weekend and chased pickerel for the first time. I'd never fished for pickerel before, but ended up catching several in just a few hours. Lots of fun and definitely worth the cold hands if you're anywhere near East Texas. I used a gold Rapala jerkbait and several different flies. Fishing the lily pads was the ticket. Cool!! Having East Texas kinfolk who are outdoors nuts, you would think that I'd have heard about this.

I've caught a few of those in Massachusetts, but can't remember getting any in Texas although I did fish Caddo once, way, way back when. Neat looking fish.

One thing you can do on a report is write one like you did in your blog and then copy and paste the text or body on a site like TKF. Reports can often quickly edited to make sense or fit a particular forum board Just an idea.

Nothing special, just some heavier fluorocarbon. I used 20# because that's what I had. Their teeth aren't very large, but there's a lot of them. I retied after each fish on the fly rod because the line was always nicked. My jerkbait was long enough that they typically didn't hit the line, only the lure, so I actually never retied it.

How do they taste? Looks like a gar.

You know, I thought about keeping some, but ended up turning them all back. I'd read they are real bony and I didn't catch any I thought would leave me with much meat.
