Kayak fishing the Lone Star State...

I finally found a weekend with no kids' events, no work, and nothing pressing on the calendar so I checked the weather, the solunar charts, and decided to pull the trigger. I even convinced a friend to join me.

We launched around 7:15a and paddled over to Churchill Bayou. Water temp was 52, air temp was 51. Wind was around 7mph. He was throwing a 3" salt and pepper shad with a green tail and I was throwing a white tandem speck rig. He caught a few rat reds and I caught nothing. We paddled a little farther into the bayou and split up. He caught more rat reds and a couple of dink trout. I caught nothing. I changed over to a 4" DSL, dark green with a yellow tail. He caught a few more rat reds. I caught nothing. I switched over to a 3" dark gray swim shad and almost immediately caught a 12" speck followed by 2 more that were just over 15". He caught an 18" speck. Winds picked up to around 12-15mph.

He got cold and decided to head back around 11:00. I decided to stay because the solunar chart said 11:33 was the prime time. At 11:08 I picked up an 18" red. Close but not quite. A couple of dink specks followed. At 11:44 I caught a fat 24" trout that made my day. Thick thick thick. Empty belly.

Everything caught by me today was on a 3" dark gray shad with a paddle tail.
