Looking to take the grandkids to Galveston on Friday

Post by dmantei »

Looking for a place we can fish from shore. The kids are all between 5 and 12. Any help on suggestions would be appreciated.

It's probably going to be crowded due to the holiday and the flounder run, but here's a few ideas:

Galveston State Park
Seawolf Park
Dock near Tiki Island (at public TPWD boat ramp)
Surf fishing at East Beach/Boddecker Road
Offats Bayou off 61st street
61st Street Pier
Short jetty at 37th street and Seawall

I live in Spring, so I expect some of the guys closer or actually live on the island probably have more to add.

IF you are looking to catch flounder then Seawolf Park would be your best bet with little ones. You can fish from the pier or the bank. The bank has big rocks to walk on but you have to be careful. Kids can get excited when catching and may slip if not focused. They sell live bait at the park as well. Gulp works great fro flounder if you don't want to use live bait. You can also bottom rig from the pier for sheepshead around the pilings of the pier and bull reds off the end of pier on cut mullet. Trout can be caught from the channel side better on popping cork and live shrimp. Lots of flat concrete areas to fish from as well with guard rails to the water.
Check the video feed of the park to get a good idea....
