Kayak Fishing Sheldon Reservoir

Post by Eat Sleep Fish »

Had a great day out with bullet.catcher, we didn't get into a whole bunch of fish but we had a great time out on the water. It was a beautiful morning out.

Enjoy!

I like that place, but I have heard that the parking lot is a haven for car burglaries, so I have stopped going.

Wow!! We used to fish there in the 80s. Always seemed to hold a few nice bass. Is it all that choked up now? I'd heard it was half dried up and choked down with vegetation.

I've never had an issue thankfully.

The lake off the main ramp is plenty open lots of water to fish. I wander into the thicker stuff myself, but the fish seem to be just about everywhere. There is a lot of dense vegetation though depending on where you're at.

Depth and clarity vary depending on where youre fishing. I've seen spots with 4' visibility and spots with no more than 6" visibility. My buddy saw depths of over 8' on his finder in some areas, wouldn't be surprised if there are some deeper holes too.

I grew up fishing Sheldon. My dad used to work for champion papermill so we'd fish there and the mill had a bunch of employee ponds back there we used to tear the bass up in. Last couple times I went by it was overgrown with hydrilla but they must be doing something to clean it up. I drove by last week on garret and it was cleaned out pretty good for bank fishing. Lots of alligators in there to.
