Trout bigger than my limit of reds

Post by My Coast Outdoors »

I had a successful kayak trip to Port Isabel Saturday in the 17 knot wind. I landed 5 or 6 reds to 25" and one 28" trout that I released. All I threw was a red/white Controlled Descent Paddle Shad on a1/8 oz Weedless hook with a large rattle inside the lure. All fish were caught on a wind blown shoreline in 1 to 2 feet of water. The key was fishing areas that had a mix of two or more different types of grass and potholes.

Very nice! What kind of loop/knot are you using?

Loop Knot

I am not sure of its name or if this will help, but..
I make an overhand loop
feed the tag end through the eye of the hook
then I take the tag end back over the overhand loop and wrap it around the main line and the loop 3-5 times
then pull tight

Sounds like a Non Slip Loop Knot (aka Kreh Loop Knot). I have not been using any loop type knots but am considering this one.

Its not the non slip, it is easier than that one.

One good thing about the non-slip knot is that the tag end is facing back towards the lure when you finish the knot. This reduces snags and hang ups.

I tied a few of the non slip loop knots today and I do see some advantages over the one I typically tie. I will most likely transition over to the non slip although it is a little more time consuming than what I was using. I'll get the hang of it and I think it will be an improvement overall. Thanks for mentioning it.
