POC 4/29/2017

Post by Petem1999 »

Launch Point: POC Fishing Center
Conditions:
Tide: incoming and very high
Water: cloudy
Sky: Over cast most of the morning, partly cloudy in afternoon
Wind: Lot of it
Bait: Live/dead shrimp and live mullet under a popping cork
Lures: Egret eels under a popping cork

Got on the water at fist light. Had a young man from church for his first kayak fishing trip. Chose POC because the islands would protect us from the wind somewhat. Paddled into the wind until we got to our starting point, started working the grass lines... Had a live shrimp out behind us and had a 23 trout take it.
After that nothing.
Afternoon had worked out way down one side and were coming up another side and saw a tailing red fish, could not get it to take anything...
Around 1:30 started getting some rat reds. Then a 22 inch redfish..... then the bite died off.
Around 3:30 bite started again, lots of rat reds and hard heads.....
The young man who was with me got some rats and a good sized lady fish for some excitement...
On a side note the island right across from the fishing center that usually has cows on it has wild pigs.. Saw a huge boar rutting around in the sand/mud, he didn't seem to mind that I was about 100 yards away from him.
Wish summer would get here!
