Fishing For Coastal Alligator Gar and Red Drum

Post by SharkBait >*)\\\><( »

Decided to do something really different and see if i could find and figure out some coastal Alligator gar here in Texas. The trinity river rose 15 feet overnight with the rains we just had, so exploring locations where alligator gar live is always interesting, and allot can be learned from doing so.
I fished allot of big mullet for bait throughout the day in search of gar. I ended up landing a dozen red drum up to 29 1/2 inches, 3 sheepshead, one little black drum and 4 small Alligator Gar.
As the sun was setting i managed to hook up a 5 1/2 to 6 foot Gator Gar for close to a minute but she threw the hook when she jumped out of the water completely.
I will be back i learned allot and i believe gar may stack up in that area at times. i have a number of other more coastal spots to try as well. Those coastal gar are strong and acrobatic fish.
