Headed out Saturday morning to the Nueces river. My first time for white bass so I tagged along with a fellow tkfr, yakety_yak, hella of cool guy.
We started fishing around 8am and we each had our 25 bag limit in less than an hour. We fished till about noon and I figure we each caught maybe 90-100 white bass. It was a fun day!

Nice haul. Was this near the rapids? I went down south of 59 and it was dead.

Ha. I remember you guys. We paddled up the same time. It was our first time there too. That was a long ways to the rapids and we talked about adding some type of prop system to our yaks so we are not so worn out when we get there or the way back. My buddy took his fly rod and later took me up at the first pool beyond the rapids. At one point, I caught four in a row. Not very big white bass, but it sure is fun snagging them almost on every cast.

It's been years since I fished for them personally, but man do they taste good from the fryer.
Curious, do they freeze well or is that one where you have a big fish fry ASAP?

I caught a limit the last Sunday in January with yakety_yak and froze them fully submerged in bags of water and had a fish fry on Super Bowl Sunday. One trick yakety_yak told me about was to look up on youtube to see how to filet them leaving just a little meat on the skin. Basically get rid of the red meat. They were delicious!!Yaklash wrote:It's been years since I fished for them personally, but man do they taste good from the fryer.
