Murphy's Law Fishing....

Post by Littlebear »

Paddled out of Louis' Bait camp Sunday morning around 8:30 am in very low tide and a westerly wind and headed south towards the railroad bridge. Found a whole heard of birds standing around on the beach that usually isn't there and on a whim decided to cast my lure towards them. Of course this was into the wind and my reel backlashed like a big dog....so there I was drifting along with the current, dragging my plum plastic with shartreaus paddle tail along the bottom and snagging on everything while trying to untangle a professional bird's nest....all of a sudden my snagged lure started pulling me around! As luck would have it I had a 22" Redfish to fight with a tangled mess of a reel....so I just reeled over the mess and landed my PB! Wish I could figure out how to attach a picture!

Fish long enough with a baitcaster and you will get bit while untangling a bird's nest  drifting or not.

love it. That makes you better. When I tell non regular anglers what I do and they think they can tag along and catch what I catch, maybe sounds dumb and easy but they are missing the many days of B.S. like the one you had. They wind up catching nothing because of fiddling with too much crap and they are not making a quarter of the casts I am. Needless to say some don't ever come out again. I get a lot of "I had to paddle to far in the wind, I'm tired and wet". Oh ya and I love hanging up with a fish while fixing a bird nest

Yeah, I'm really enjoying fishing and especially kayak fishing. It's like most things we do, not for everybody! I am fortunate enough to get to fish with my brother-in-law who just bought a bay boat, but I really enjoy kayak fishing where I can spend as much time as I want (wife permitting) by myself working a spot or area. It's a challenge physically as well as mentally! I'm pretty much driving everybody crazy with my stories....

Funny story, and congrats on the PB red.

Not that I want to know, just asking for a friend, but what hue is "SHARTreaus". Greenish Brown?
