Spring Break in Matagorda

Post by texasflatrat »

I was lucky enough to make 2 trips down to Matagorda over Spring Break. The first trip was more of a "teaching" situation as I hauled around 2 buddies that do not get to kayak very often. We caught a few fish, but the conditions were not very cooperative for sight casting. After being blown all over the bay for a day and a half we anchored up some shell and managed some undersized fish with a popping cork.

My second trip down was a solo trip and there were redfish everywhere. I spent the better part of 5 hours casting at crawlers and blowing out way more fish than I landed. They were pretty picky, but even the pickiest of fish have a hard time saying no to a Buggs Curl Tail. I managed a limit averaging 25" and called it a day around 2 in the afternoon. All fish were caught on a Black and Gold Buggs curl tail in less than a foot of water.

Thanks for the report, nice fish and good of you to take some folks who don't get to yak around much. I always like to hear what the water was like and what they were hitting. Thanks.
