Highland Bayou Tarpon 2-19-16

Post by Flippin' Crazee »

Hit the bayou Friday night to work the almost full moon. I launched right before dark, paddled to my spot and on the first cast with a 51m "Woody" I hook up with what I thought was a big trout at first. The first jump out of the water I got a look at him and thought "WoW! That's a nice trout" and then he jumped again and then I knew it was a tarpon. What a fight! I was stressing out thinking that I wouldn't land him, but I got lucky and was able to get a pic of him. Of course on my second cast I hung up the only red/white "Woody" 51m I had so I switched to a black/chart skitterwalk and ended up catching some nice trout. If you have never been out at night on a full moon you should put it on your bucket list. Every month I'm out there around the full moon and I'm never disappointed. There were fat trout swirling everywhere but you had to keep grinding to get them to bite. I ended up catching a few on tops and a few on a chartreuse catch2000.

That's awesome! I'd trade just about any fish for a Texas tarpon.
