Red fish are warming up 2-11-2015

Post by surfpunk »

Decided to leave the trout alone and see what the red fish were doing in the marsh. Tides were pretty low and the reds were basking in the sun over mud. I was able to sight cast five over mud and pick up a few more in a pattern that I've found them in over the past month or so. Fishing pinches in the marsh where the water was about five feet deep payed off with fish from 5-9 pounds, the 9 pound'er was barely in the slot at 27.9999 inches and was released to hopefully catch on tourney day. Everything was caught on the H&H Queen Cocahoe Minnow in black with a chartreuse tail on a 1/4 ounce jig head. Water was off color due to the East wind.

Nice "mess" of fish there. Did you open them up to see what they have in their bellies? Would be curious to see.

I ended up releasing them after the photo. They weren't dragged around at all and swam off strong. A few had large mullet tails sticking out of their mouths. They fought much harder too because of the warmer water.

Hey Johnathan, why don't you just start fishing out of one of these!

If you'd hurry up and buy it for me Eric, I'll fish out of that thing at least once a week. It'd be hard to sneak up on the reds though.
