9/28 galeston marsh report.

Post by stuman »

Got to the ramp at about 6:45, paddled into the marsh. Fished the front for about 30 minutes tryin to pick up a flounder but no dice. Got to my spot where I have been seeing reds and start cruising looking for feeding fish and wakes. High tide was at 8 and the water was probably two feet higher than I am used to seeing it, so it made it tough. Picked up a nice 22" red in a drain on a topwater and was feeling like despite the high tides this was going to be a good morning. I was wrong, didn't hook another fish til about 1:30. Tide was finally noticeably coming down and I started seeing more action. At about 3:30 it turned on like a light switch I caught 5 more keeper reds and one 19 3/4". Biggest red was just shy of 25". I think I caught 4 on top water (black/yellow shepup) and the rest on a red/black hydra bug site casting. The key to the topwater was to just run it parallel to the grass and get it as close in there as I could. Had to grind forsure but it was a great day on the water. Saw lots of small pods of 3-4 reds. I ended the day with 8 reds 7 being keepers.

Great report.

Looks like the bite turned on right as the tide started moving out.
I'm looking closely at the tide charts. Seems we're gonna have a good tidal movement one weekend, followed by poor one next weekend.

Nice report. Way to stick with it until conditions improved and the bite turned on.

Thanks guys!

- Good talking to you at the ramp.

Wont be able to chase any tails this weekend so I will let you guys have it. I will be in Kema for the weekend, may bring a pole or two but no yak.
