Crystal Beach Rettilon Road 8/17/2014

Post by MobyYack »

rettilon road (turn right at the beach, 2nd trash barrel)

Water was really low...tried berkeley gulp on a piece of junk cork popper and caught a sand trout and a big croaker. dad caught a 12 in ladyfish and a whiting at the same time on dead shrimp fishing the bottom with a 2 hook rig. dropped my $20 bottle of berkeley gulp in the surf so somebody go find it (to the left of the white poles).

tide was low so maybe that was the problem

It is terribly shallow in that area and the water has one of the highest bacterial counts on Bolivar.

Take care when you fish there.

The wife and I went down a little further and hit the surf thinking it would be OK compared to the Galveston side, WRONG.
It wasn't as bad, but still bad. Since we were there we fished a while for Whiting, got quite a few on dead shrimp but not the size I wanted. One ladyfish and 1 undersize trout pulled in. The surf beat the crap out of us. Never again on a SW wind.

Yeah, anything over single digits from the SW usually makes the beachfront unfishable. At least if you had been on the Galveston side, you could have hit a better protected marsh in West Bay as a backup.

You can actually get the 10 and go around the ferry. You save yourself about an hour
