Sea Rim State Park Marsh
wife and i did some camping there this past weekend. Hoping to do some BTB but the Gulf wouldn't cooperate. So we fished the marsh side. I don't think the water depth went over 2ft. Dones of baitfish and rat reds. Fished the canals with no luck and paddled to Big Fence Lake. Saw birds working and schools of shad jumping. First cast hooked up and landed my largest Red on light tackle. 32" about 15lbs. took me on nice sliegh ride! Then I caught another Red at 20", and my wife caught her first Red. MiniBlue cam for the day and hooked into a huge gar that took him for a ride until it popped his line. The park is nice, down side is hot showers but they do have rinse showers on the boardwalk to the beach.

That's a very nice fish!

Good report. Was the park crowded? Been thinking about going since the post-Ike rebuild.

Not crowded at all. If you want to do BTB it has 2 access points to drive onto the beach. One from the day use area and the other is in the camping area.Yaklash wrote:Good report. Was the park crowded? Been thinking about going since the post-Ike rebuild.

So did you park at that little boat ramp (assuming that is what it is) and paddle that mile or so long skinny canal?
Do you go to Sabine pass and then down 87?

We launched and parked at the boat ramp in the park and paddled down the canal to Fence Lake. Lots of bait and reds in the canal.beelinerguy wrote:So did you park at that little boat ramp (assuming that is what it is) and paddle that mile or so long skinny canal?

I came from the west. I-10E Exit in Winnie TX-73 turns into 82E then get on 87. There are signs to help.

FYI there is a bait/gas station/store in Sabine that sells live and frozen bait and some tackle, drinks etc.

Thanks for the info. How is the water clarity? A lot of alligators?

Nice fish! Thanks for sharing.

That gator is usually at the boat ramp. If you are in for a four mile one way paddle, there are shallow marshes all around Salt Bayou.
