First Red on a top water

Post by Tuna1214 »

Worked a graveyard shift Saturday night in HTown. I live in the Spring/Woodlands area so I figured taking my gear to work then heading south at 5am was the ticket. Beautiful quiet morning on the bay. I went armed only with a Spook Jr determined to nail a red on a top water bite. Got my wish. Bittersweet though, this little guy needs to grow into that spook lol. Pretty though, sent him on his way.

I like the fact that you only took the top. You are to be commended for your dedication to catching one on top !

Beautiful pic!! For when the Pig comes around, if you don't already know this, factory hooks on a Spook Jr are not up to the force of most keeper reds - certainly not a Pig. No matter how light the drag is set, slot reds will bend (open) more of those chintzy little hooks than seems possible. I change the hooks out before they ever get salty.
