Reds and Trout 8/6
Reds and Trout 8/6
I hit the bay again this morning looking for some big trout. There were a few fish in the spot I caught them the other day, but not quite the same quality. I pulled in a couple 18" trout and decided to move on and look for some bigger fish. I stated covering a lot of ground and found the fish to be spread out everywhere. I would catch one in 1' of water over grass and then find a few more in 3' of water over shell. The reds and trout seemed to be running together today. I kept alternating between the two with each catch.
I kept grinding and finally found an area with big trout. The first one I landed measured out at 24.5". A few casts later a monster trout hit my topwater as I was pulling it out of the water. It made three big jumps, hit the kayak, took about 15 yards of line and made one more jump, but this time she broke me off. I'm guessing that it was in the 27"-28" range. I had a few more nice fish that came off and then the smaller trout moved in. It was frustrating, but I guess I can't really complain.
I finished up with 5 keeper trout, and 4 slot reds. My buddy was wanting fish for the family so I kept my limit of reds and all the trout except the 24"er. The tide was slowly incoming again and the only lure I threw was my pink skitterwalk.

(First post, hello everybody)
Nice catch! I'm headed to Matagorda tomorrow with the family and plan on hitting the east bay Saturday morning. If I get a third of what you got there I'll be thrilled, bay fishing is new to me though so I have low expectations.

nice stringer. Just wondering how you keep the battery pack for those shorts from getting wet?
