Tough Trout Bite (6-1-14)
Myself and a couple friends had plans to hit a Galveston marsh Saturday morning to look for some belly crawling reds on the low tide. However, with the tides running way higher than predicted we made a last second change to look for trout instead. Our first spot was a large flat near a few marsh drains that I thought would produce since we were at the tail end of an outgoing tide. I figured lots of bait would have been pulled from the marsh and I was right. The problem was they were all dinks. We moved to a second spot with not fish and then to a third were we located a few trout. We fished a drop off in about 4-5 feet of water with a sandy bottom throwing skitterwalks. We ended the day with 10 trout total with 5 between 17 and 22 inches along with a few dinks and a few barely legals that were returned. Tide was incoming for all but one hour and winds were nice and low between 5-10 mph. A couple extra pics and more detailed report are available on my blog at:

Looks like a decent day. Way to tough it out and adapt. I was planning on fishing the LSKS this Saturday but looks like I'm going to have to work. I'll have to hit the next one in August.

Great info and way to adapt to the conditions. I went out Friday and found high tides in my marsh of choice too. I stubbornly looked for backs and tails and came away with a tired back and shoulders, some new ideas for where to go next week, and a renewed dislike of high tides and strong winds. Glad you scored!

I know where that is. I'm gonna go clean that spot out this weekend while you're hunting for reds.

Nice job. 10 keepers is never a bad day. Kudos on returning the iffys to fight another day.
I've read your blog a couple of times...good stuff. Keep it up.
