Good bite in west bay

Post by saltykat »

Got a call from btbrich wanting to go bayfishing for the first time and couldn't pass that up hope you guys had a good time alot different than btb. Got to the launch after 11am and jettysoldier was taking a break and he said the bite was on all morning. Trolling out to start the first drift caught one in the first few minutes and the bite was fast the first hour or two, then died when the tide started coming in caught a few more just before dark. Caught 15 keepers 4 over 20" 1 over 25" all released and all caught on the redfish cork lure. Cool cloudy morning turned into a beautiful afternoon and sunset. Fished in 3'-5' water mud and shell bottom, nw to sw wind 5-15

Yup those are the ones, I bought a couple 10 packs of them and the redfish version is my fav by far but only got 2 of the redfish, then I bought a bunch of the redfish version on ebay after that. Bump them along the bottom nice and slow with a little twitch here and there :cat:

They are slow sinkers like the corky and you do have to change the hooks they suck

If you're not catching fish, this may be why. This method works all the time in cold water and if you're not hanging up every now and then, your fishing it too fast! I also fish a Mirrodine XL the same way with the same results.

NIce fish salty  , hope my truck is ready tomorrow!

Happy Fishin'

btbrich and I started out in Oxen Bayou but couldn't find water deeper than a couple feet. Headed back to link up with saltykat and try to catch my first Speck.

Saltykat caught a couple and I shot some video of him landing his biggest one of the year.

A little later I caught my first one on a rootbeer/chartreuse hackberry hustler.

btbrich caught a bucktooth spadefish or what is known as a sheephead.

Everybody seemed to be catching fish while it was cloudy and windy-
the wind died and the sun came out and it seemed the bite shut down.

Saltykat thanks to you and Chris at SWPS for your help.

Fish never get sick of the redfish tsunami! It's a scientific fact.

I got lots of the Tsunami (Paul Brown copy) corkys. They look and act just like PB's but they do not sink the same rate as PB's They can be tweaked just like PB's. I never liked how fast they sink though. My PB's seem to sink slower.
Well done on catching some nice fish!!!

Just watched the video in this old post and saw the iconic purple house...a classic winter spot...lots of shell and mud...I was there this week....fished corkies and soft plastics....have no pictures....therefore, none were caught... :P
