7-9 Day 45

Honey hole action resulted in some fish! Forgot to turn camera on on the nice one but managed some footage after realizing it. Hoping to hit up Tiki this Friday night if anyone is interested. Also thinking of camping overnight. Any one ever camp in that area off a kayak? Are there many rules/ regs for camping on some of the islands? Any help would be appreciated.

7-11 and 7-12 Reports Day 47 and 48

Combining these two reports because one was from last night and the other from this AM. Ventured down to Surfside and set-up shop on some canal lights for some specks. Managed 2 keepers, lost flounder, and a little speck. Sure was fun fishing last night but the mosquitoes were really bad by the marshes and the barges were REALLY close.

7-12 Day 48
After camping on Surfside beach woke up to a beautiful moon and sunrise. Hit up some marshes that interconnect to the intracoastal and pulled in two beautiful reds! Definitely redeemed myself from last week and not catching a single one. Both measured 22" and one had2 and three spots. Caught another baby red and then a croaker and called it a day. Thanks to Tennessee Slim for joining me again! Video should be coming soon.

Caught my first red this morning out with Magic. It wasn't a keeper but now I see what the fuss is about. What an awesome fish.

Would of been awesome to meet up but glad we didn't. Don't think my stomach would have liked it to much. Fish were biting for me I assume you too. How far did you go out?

Headed down to Freeport / Surfside area with the intentions of meeting up with some people. Plans didn't mesh to well and Tennessee Slim and I ended up fishing virgin ground for us. Friday night we hit up some canal lights and despite the mosquitoes and barges, I landed some fish. 3 specks 2 of which were keepers and a flounder that I lost right by yak. All were caught with a trout rig with worm and without. Headed out to camp at the beach around 0130.

After a couple hours of sleep, literally, we woke up around 0500 and headed out for some coffee and then some skinny water fishing. Having never fished the area went with my gut and fished live bait. However I didn't realize the extent of the oyster beds and it ended up being really annoying throughout the day. Popping cork with live shrimp produced two nice 22" reds, baby red, and croaker. Not enough sleep and poor nutrition for breakfast resulted in some nausea and a little dehydration. Pulled through and headed back to Kingwood.

7-14 Day 50

Boy did I have a kayak bass fishing day! I wont spoil the video (should be out tomorrow) but I caught a pretty good number of bass today. The funny thing is I was targeting gar at the beginning. Spinner bait with a rope tail to snag the teeth of the gar. Needless to say hooked into 2 bass on that rig so switched it up to tried and true Texas rig with 10" ZOOM trick worm.

All this action got me wandering, what is the most fish you have caught in one trip? Watch my video and comment on it please. See if you broke my kayak fishing record.

Again Video should be up tonight or tomorrow. And PLEASE leave a comment with your PB for number of fish.

7-20 Day 56 (seem to be hitting a minor WALL) need some motivation!!!!

Headed back out to the bayou from earlier this week with Tennessee Slim. Fun day of fishing but a really weird one. Story of the day was the bass hitting our spinnerbaits and rooster tails right by the boat and a catfish line that was hanging from a power line. I even caught a bass as I was rigging my spinnerbait on and hangign over the side to put away my open tackle. The catfish was rescued but the damage was done to his eye. The story goes, We were headed back in and I see this line hanging all the way down from an overhead power line. It's SLOWLY moving and I say "there is a fish on there." Well there sure was! pretty nice blue, seems to have been on there for a while as his eye was pretty narly! Anyway great couple hours of low sodium fishing after a great weekend of SALT!

7-21 Day 57

Went back out to bens branch bayou and noticed another fish on the line from yesterday. My mistake for not cutting the line, thought about it only after I got home. Sure enough I checked again today and there was another catfish on it. I left it yesterday and there was no bait on the hook or anything. Must have just wanted some left over catfish eyeball residue. Line was cut down and thrown away. Nothing else was biting for me so this was the only action I got!

7-22 Day 58

Back to some bank fishing after a good solid few days of taking kayak out everyday! Started slow but was getting bites. Figured they were small or just biting the tail of my 10" ZOOM trick worm. Switched up to a Grande Bass Rattlesnake and caught four dinks. Got some cool underwater footage of a bunch of bluegill in their little holes they create!

7-23 Day 59

Was planning on meeting Tennessee Slim out at our local honey hole but he ran into major traffic. More fish for me! Had some nice hhok-ups and landed some quality fish for this area. Lost really good two fish. Tried a new camera angle from a home made camera extender pole. Got some good footage.
