Hey everyone. I wade fish at brushy creek near Austin in my "it's too late to drive somehwere" fishing times, and came across this little girl the other day. I looked it up, and read some comments about a "shoal bass". Never heard of that, so wanted to see what y'all thought? I was going with smallmouth until I read about the shoal.

Re: Bass identification
Looks to me like a Guadalupe smallmouth hybrid from what I can tell by the picture.

Funny enough I was just watching a youtube about yak fishing for the guadalupe, and I have to agree.

Re: Bass identification
Looks like a possible war mouth. That's what his huge eyes are saying.....did it fight like a huge fish?

Well, at brushy I use a micro. 6 pd braid, and a ultralite. On this rod/reel combo, everything fights like a beast. But, to answer your question, it didn't fight more than a bass this size.
Re: Bass identification
That is a guad. Most lakes in central Texas have them.
Re: Bass identification
That's a Guadalupe Bass. The mouth doesn't extend past the eye and it has horizontal stripes along the bottom. They also have a tooth patch.

Another vote for smallmouth/Guad hybrid. Doesn't look like a pure Guad to me.
I don't think there are any shoal bass in Texas. People catch those in rivers in Georgia and Alabama.
