Can't figure this out.

Post by Volkswatson »

Went fishing for hours on Monday and Tuesday. Nada.
Went out today for like 2 hrs. 7 fish.

Wish I had some better clues as to when the bite is on. Not complaining I've paddled over 10 miles this week, I'd just like to get better at this thing.

I guess that's why it's called fishing.

Any place y'all know that'll show past weather and such so I can make notes?

Weather underground has an almanac section for the closest weather station to wherever you fish.

Never fished gilmer, but I would suspect this will turn them on if they are there. I would also key in on areas with moving water. This time of year the amount of dissolved oxygen is going to decrease in stagnant bodies of water as the temperature rises.

I use 2 methods when determining when to fish.
1) I check the Solunar tables to see when the major and minor feeding periods will be and be on the water ready to catch at those times. These times are determined by moon cycles and other factors. Just be on the water when they come around. I have these tables on my Casio watch and right now is a minor feeding period and I should be out there throwing a topwater or 12" worm in the timber.
2) I go when my schedule allows me to. If the tables are not favorable, I start fishing 30min before daylight or 30min before dark. There are always fish feeding, but those two twilight hours give the feeding predators a sight advantage over their prey that YOU can take advantage of.

Study the habits of what you are fishing for~ that's the secret! And exploit those habits to your advantage.
