Saltwater camping in West Bay

Post by jakehardgrave »

So I have never camped from a Kayak before, but it looks interesting to me. Just the thought of leaving it all behind for a few days..

browsing through the camping section, I dont see much info on camping in saltwater areas, that would be my interest. pitching up on a remote beach somewhere in west bay for a weekend of fly fishing for reds.

Has anyone else done this? Any info would be appreciated.

I don't think there are any places from Surfside to High Island where you could camp. Galveston is mostly private prpoerty everywhere. Christmas and Drum Bay you can camp on the south shoreline where ever there is an opening in the grass. The north side is all Wildlife refuge. (No camping) I have camped on Drum bay a few times but I prefer to fish the bays and then at night drive across the street to camp overnight on the gulf side. Less mosquitos on the beach side. And usually cleaner. I just spent Saturday night at Surfside and fished the bay this past Sunday.

Oh, with the exception of Galveston Island State Park. That's a nice little place to camp and kayak fish.

Copy these coordinates into google maps: 29°06'21.2"N 95°09'41.5"W

I assume this is private property?

Those coordinates took me to the Pacific ocean. That would be a heck of a long paddle. :)

I think that area is open to interpretation. May be part of the refuge though

Ahh. I see: http://www.fws.gov/refuge/Brazoria/visi ... tions.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The area to the south does not seem to have many beachy areas :/

29.2402693, -95.0123965

This area is across from GISP but that'd be a heck of a paddle, right at 4mi

Anywhere over there you would be, heck the first beach you pin is not far from the ICW where they like to park at night.
