Repairing a Travel Trailer Window

Post by cliftonio »

Just picked up groceries for camping and went to pickup my trailer from the storage place......get that funny feeling. Walk around the unit and something isn't right.......back window is shattered!

Example photo below its the small window aft of the slide out, it's just a single pane automotive grade tinted glass
Image

Called the place I bought it and nearly lost it on the service guy through the phone.
Me: yes I need to bring in my trailer for a window repair
Them: sure bring it by, we will have a look and then send you home and then call you backs then we can fix it.....
ME: WTF! It's a single pane window, I bought it there, you know the part nunber...how's about ordering it and then calling me to get it installed?
Them: let me call you back (they never did and I have been out of town)

Anybody have this happen and solve it with a mobile glass repair place or other suggestion? I tarped and tapped up the window but would, like yo fix it ASAP so I can go enjoy the damned thing!

Am guessing Kodiak might have a parent company. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? My father went through a similar experience with trailer. You might research your area for a reputable RV dealer. Chances are yours is similar to other models. An RV dealer that knows what they are doing can help.
Around Rockport, there are several independent RV repair shops, you probably have some also.

Good point Kodiak is made by Dutchman and Thor Industries owns Dutchman and a half dozen other RV manufacturers. A lot of them use the same window style.

Check a company called RV Surplus.
They are in Elkhart where most of the trailers are manufactured and buy all there surplus hardware. They have hundreds of windows ,might pick one up there pretty reasonable.

A buddy had a similar situation, he ordered a window, I took about a week to arrive and he installed it himself. Quite an easy install.

Been having trouble finding a part reference....curse you internet with your cute kitten but no information I actually need!

I swallowed my pride and called back the place I bought it from and they won't return my call, left an email inquiry no return also....... :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse:

Also called a few auto glass places, no dice.

I guess I'll go grab some sand and a hot oven and make my own glass!

I don't even own a trailer but I feel your pain. My boss and a few close friends have a trailer and any little repair needed means at least several weeks in the shop. They never return calls and always want to do the least possible work for the most $$$. A tire blew on my bosses trailer and it damaged the underside. Two months in the shop and they almost had to threaten the shop with a lawsuit to get them to finish the work. They've been through 2 shops already because none of them are any good. Seems they all have the "could care less" attitude about anything other than a sell.

There is a place down the road from me that does tt repair. I'm told they do a great job. If you send me your trailer model and the size of the window I'll swing by there and see if they can order it for you.

smtxom: I had some slide issues, that occurred twice and even though it was outside of warranty they did the repair no charge, and I had no issues getting it in/out (a bit slow the second time but not the end of the world). I would even pay a bit more to expedite this, I would love to take the kiddo camping this weekend.......its like my money is no good there! :horse:

Al: You are a hero to all. Let me give these a$$clowns one more shot and then I may take you up on that!

Same deal with my truck. Great sales experience but bringing it there for service is a test of patience and control from juts going in to an F laced tirade!

Holy %^$%^%$#$%^&^%$@#*&^%$%^&*&^%$#@#& !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally got to speak with somebody with the place I bought it, what a bunch of $%^&ing a$$hats!

- no problem sir we can schedule for the next available service date......that will be the 2nd week of Sept!
- oh sure you can order the part!
- Parts! Oh no sir you have to send me measurements and a picture, and then I phone the manufacture and then they will build me a whole new window (not just the glass)

These $%^&ing windows are all the same size, over about 20 different types of RV and these a$$clowns cant find a similar one and send me the $%^&ing glass!

HOLY %^&* !

I need a piece of glass, imagine if this was something serious!

There should be a sign under all dealer signs describing the way they do business. Should read "Blah, Blah, Blah" is our policy. There is a reason I see more RV repair specialist, they have a lot of work.

When Im not getting the results I expect I always ask the person for their name. If in person I write it down in front of them. If on the phone I make a point of either asking them how to spell it or mumble something about my pen not writing-generally notice an attitude change.

If this doesnt get me to where I want, I then ask to speak with their manager & I certainly will speak to him/her.
