Looking for suggestions for a good trip within 5 hrs of Houston. Will have a maximum of 10 boys with 2 adults.
Looking for a good place to fish camp and explore. Canoeing camping trip is definitely a possibility as well, but we would need suggestions of outfitters/rentals.
Thanks
Tyler

How about Stubblefield in the Sam Houston National Forest near New Waverly, TX. Nice campgrounds on Stubblefield Lake (a slough off of the mouth of Lake Conroe, great for kayaking or canoeing), National Forest and trails to explore with plenty of wildlife to see. No kind of rentals though. Maybe Harmon creek if the water levels ever subside, they rent canoes and kayaks I've heard.

I will not recommend any one place but your have a huge number of state parks within a 5 hour drive, most with hiking trails.

ou are also in range of the Sam Houston National Forest, The Davy Crockett National Forest and the Angelina National Forest Forest, plus possibly the Sabine National Forest. They all have designated campgrounds, except during hunting season you can camp anywhere in the forests with most, if not all having hiking trails.

Just to make your choices more difficult there is also the Padre Island National Seashore. :D
