Garner State Park-Open Invite

Post by Hirsch »

I have never been out to the Hill Country to catch the fall colors. Lynne and I are going out to Garner arriving Saturday, November 8 and departing Tuesday, November 11. I plan one day to make the 40 minute drive out to Lost Maples State Natural Area to see their well advertised colors and possibly another day to Bandera to see Hill Country SNA. I have checked and was told the water is too low for good kayaking though I may take a rod in case the bug to wade fish strikes.

Anyone who wishes is welcome to join us, but I would decide quickly and get reservations now. The park is already about 80% full that weekend.

Great idea, Paul! I've never been to Garner and always looking for an excuse to go new places to paddle and explore.........especially if it means driving over to the Hill Country!!!!!! Hope the weather stays just like it is.

Heck, my yak and camping gear are already organized and ready to load! I've been watching their local weather and hoo-rahing the rain 'til Thurs/Fri to bring the river up-- then the weekend and early week will be fantastic! Looking forward to seeing you and Beekeeper....... this should turn out to be a great trip.

Just returned from Garner SP. It was beautiful, the weather cool. GNP and Lost Maples were great, but crowded. I recommend those places on a weekday, not weekend.

To Lynn and Paul-my truck transmission began crapping out after I left your camp Sat.
night. That's why I didn't come by on Sunday. I was able to make it home. But, don't worry,
I jacked it up and put a new one under it.

Okay Paul -- you sort the pic's while I recoup from the add'l 3 hr trip home, lol. What a fun trip with lot's of sights........1,213.4 miles round trip on my truck!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to bed.

Wow, Jim....so glad you made it back home. I'm sure there was some worry about it all the way! It was great visiting with you again...wish you could have stayed longer.

Rod Dawg......I'm SO glad the park staff were helpful in tracking you guy's down out of the 500+ campsites that place has!!!!!!!!!! It was great to meet up with ya'll again and have you join us for dinner and campfire after what????....4 years???? I'll be thinking of you both tonight dealing with the freezing temps coming in with the cold front today (and thankful I'm home in my warm bed). Congrat's and wishing you both a Happy Anniversary!!

Lynne and I managed at least a drive through off Lost Maples SNA, Hill Country SNA, Inks Lake State Park and LBJ State Park, besides spending 3 nights at Garner getting out as the norther blew in. It was a great trip, enjoyed seeing Jim again and meeting RodDog and his wife enjoying dinner and the campfire with them.

Paul/Lynn...It was a pleasure having dinner with you guys. I'm still sore from all the hiking we did and very glad we brought the little heater and thick blankets:)
