Patch kit for yaks and just about anything

Post by bowgarguide »

While reading a yak racing forum I ran accross this patch kit . It ssure might be handy on camping and trips where your pretty isolated.

I shaved a big hole in the bottom of my U14.5 from dragging it. It took on 5 gallons plus of water and still paddled like a champ. I went cheap and used mighty putty and it worked.

I've never needed a patch, but this looks like something that may be nice to carry in case something ever happens....especially on a remote stretch of river!

Good find. Wouldn't take up much room and might come in handy in an emergency.

For sure! Might have to pick up one of these kits, looks like a good insurance policy. Probably works even better than duct tape!

Thanks Ron, I agree if the guys on Tx water safari are endorsing then I got to believe there is merit to the product. I may order one but I already have enough on my pack list so I guess I migth be one of those stories you read about having left their yak and walked out someday. I do carry Gorilla Tap though but might consider making this change.

been thinking about a couple of their large patch kits as keel guards for awhile. Just haven't gotten around to it.

looks like I'll be ordering one before September!! That solves one of my concerns about the devils!!! I read a review on the bottom of one of the products pages and it said to skip the MRE heater and just boil the patch until it softened up. I wonder if you could ditch the bag and just carry the patch material if you were camping (IE heat source available)

The patch can be bought separately for MUCH cheaper. I ended up picking up a couple 3x10" patches at a Next Adventure (a PDX area shop) for $7.50 each.

While the stuff will work in an emergency situation, in the end it wasn't going to work out the way I wanted as a keel guard.

It'll heat and work fine with just about any heat source that can get it up to 200F degrees.
