Colorado River Camp 11-21-22

Post by DNR »

Who wants to go camping?
I know a few people wanted to go and I'd like to get one in before the "freeze out" trips start.

Could do the FM973 Bridge to Little Webberville, 12 miles with great fishing and a perfect island for camping.
The island is close to the take-out so it's not a long 2nd day.
It's an easy shuttle between the two.

I'd be up for any other ideas, this one is productive and easy though.

We'll see how many are going, then make a food plan. I always bring a grill.
Really just what you need to camp and fish.

Uncle Buss - lets go camping
Hirschhunter - make it if you can
larry long shadows - looks like your going ??
Randy - hope you can make it
On the Guad has to wait and see.

Here is a map of the bridge put-in:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=30.2 ... 1&t=h&z=15

The take out is at Little Webberville Park or Garfield, depending on what is easiest. It's the same distance, just different sides of the river.

Hope the weather is as nice as it has been around here. It's been perfect.

I'll be away from the internet for the rest of the weekend, we'll make plans early next week.

Looks like we're getting a plan.
Head count so far:
larry long shadows
Uncle Buss +1
On the Guad +1
Me and most likely my neighbor
and maybe Hirschhunter.

I know most everybody is coming from a distance, what time could we meet at the bridge?
Earlier the better for plenty of time to fish and get to the camp in time to set up, explore, etc before dark.
We usually just shuttle ourselves so we'll need to make a plan on that, or I can talk to Cook's Canoes about a ride back. He's right at the take out.

For dinner, with a group of 7 or so it might be easiest to do a grill-out.
Everybody bring a steak or pork chop or whatever you like to grill. Baked potatos, veggies in foil, etc.
I like to marinade a steak in a baggie and put in my ice chest, throw some foiled potatos or corn on the cob in the hull of the boat.
I'd love to do a dutch oven thing but it just doesn't fit in my yak with everything else.

For breakfast I bring a plastic bottle of eggs with onions, peppers, spices mixed and ready to cook for B-tacos. Mine holds about 10 eggs so if one other person brought some too that'll cover B-fast.

From what the weather guesser said it should be perfect.
We'll plan from here.

I normally bring along a quart of "egg beaters"(for the ease if transport) along with onions / peppers / etc, as well as a pound of jimmy dean for breakfast tacos.......in this case 2 pounds may be required for the headcount......i can cover this and the tortillas...between what DNR will bring for b-fast, and this...it oughta fill us enough......

i like a side of "Strider corn" on my camp out suppers, and will bring enough ingredients for one skillet full of this as well....

also...something i tried with much success last time i was out was this:

2 packs Idaho instant mashed potatoes (butter and garlic flavor)
1 H.E.B. fully cooked baked chicken (de-boned and ready to eat in a ziplock)
1 can corn
1 can green beans
1 decent sized aluminum pan

...get the water boiling in the pan, pour the potatoes in, stir, and stir the rest in....fed 4 of us so that we didnt even finish it..

all done on a lil cloeman single burner.......just a suggestion

i am willing to drive up fri eve...and try and stay somewhere near the put in...been known to sleep in the truck if necessary

is it safe to leave trucks parked at bridge? I have parked outside cooks canoes and felt safe there...

I'm very excited a friend of mine might follow me up also if that is ok..will bring food i like the idea of egg shake breakfast( will do the same). I brought my kayak in side house sunday and have been loading and reloading it for two days. What ever time you want to meet I will be there I'm leaveing early friday and stay close to site. A shuttle would be fine with me what ever is easy hope every one makes it and if you want to do the dutch oven thing I have a prowler 13 I'll put it on there some where for a dutch oven treat.

I'll be there for sure. As far as food goes I'll will probably bring some stuff to do breakfast but will rely on MREs for the lunch/dinner meals. Just name the time and place to meet and I'll be there.

Looks like we got the food covered.
Cool Uncle Buss, no TKF trip is complete without a pan of "Strider corn"

For ya'll that want to come Fri., the put in is near the airport so there are lots of motels close.

I've never had a problem parking at the bridge but with as many trucks as we'll have I'll figure out a way we can leave, at least some, at L. Webberville.
I'll talk to Cook's.

We'll keep planning.
I'll PM everybody my phone # later this afternoon.

I have the shuttle figured out.
We'll meet at the put-in and unload, then run all the vehicles to the take-out, Little Webberville Park.
My neighbor will follow and take us back to the put-in.
That way when we get to the park Sun. everybody can load up and head out.

Here's my cel # 512-925-8421

we took this trip back in May, but we kept going to smithville. 43 miles in total one night of camping due to the high water and only one campsite that we almost passed up. This streach you guys are taken is nice it has a big cliff for a good photo op.
